The Hills Stableford Competition and the John Nichol Trophy During the third term school holidays each year the Hills Association hold four rounds of stableford competition for junior members of member clubs. The aim of the competition is to introduce juniors to competitive golf in a relaxed, friendly and comfortable environment. Players compete for both individual and club trophies. The Club whose members average the highest stableford score for the four rounds win the John Nichol Trophy. This year the rounds were held at Mt Lofty, Blackwood, Mt Osmond and Thaxted Park and I am really pleased to announce that Mt Lofty won the trophy. It is the FIRST time in 32 years of this competition that Mt Lofty has won the trophy, so congratulations go to those players who did so well. Those who played in some or all of the rounds were Cameron Bond, Ben Dooley, Alec Harrowfield, Elliot Keith, Katelyn Ryles and Jordan Willsmore. Most players scored well in the first three rounds and even a relatively poor final round at Thaxted Park was not enough to prevent Mt Lofty finishing with the highest average of precisely 36 stableford points - great stuff! Individual honours were also won by Alec Harrowfield who came 5th overall, and Elliot Keith and Katelyn Ryles who tied for 3rd place. It was a great way to prepare for the start to the Hills Pennant season! This competition is devised to introduce juniors to golf so I hope that many more of you will have a go in the coming years. My thanks go to all of the parents who support junior golf, Warren Symons for his coaching and encouragement and the members of the Junior Development Committee who plot and plan ways to improve junior golf at Mt Lofty Chris Muirhead Click on the photos to enlarge . |
