The Hills Stableford Competition and the John Nichol Trophy - 2011

During the third term school holidays each year the Hills Association holds four rounds of stableford competition for junior golfers. The aim of the competition is to introduce young players to competitive golf in a relaxed, friendly and comfortable environment.

This year the rounds were held at Willunga, Blackwood, Mt Lofty and Flagstaff Hill. After 32 years of competition, 2010 was the first time that our Mt Lofty juniors won the trophy and it is with much pleasure that I announce that Mt Lofty has won the John Nichol Trophy for a second time in 2011.

The Club whose members average the highest stableford score for the four rounds wins the John Nichol Trophy. Flagstaff Hill finished third, Mt Osmond second and Mt Lofty first with our players averaging 35.0 points.

Congratulations go to the seven players who did so well - Katelyn Ryles, Alex Pacifico, Cameron Bond, Elliot Keith, Ben Dooley, Ricke Reeder and Ben Masson.

Players also compete for both individual prizes. Alex finished fourth overall and Katelyn, Alex, Cameron and Elliot all won prizes at one or more of the four rounds.

This competition is devised to introduce juniors to golf so I hope that many more juniors will have a go in the coming years. Last year Mt Lofty was represented by six players – this year it was seven, with three new players to the competition, so we are slowly developing an active group of junior golfers. It was a great way to prepare for the start to the Hills Pennant season on the 30th of October!

My thanks go to all of the parents who support junior golf, Warren Symons for his coaching and encouragement and the members of the Junior Development Committee who plot and plan ways to improve junior golf at Mt Lofty. Can we make it three in a row in 2012?
