Moller Cup at Mt Osmond Golf Club on Monday 7th November 2011.

The competing teams were:- Mt Osmond, Grange, North Adelaide and Mt Lofty.  Each team has 10 players, playing an Aggregate stableford competition.

This year the weather was warm to hot and windy. The course was presented well with fast tricky greens. Some photos of our girls on the course.

This year Pauline had the best score for Mt Lofty with 34pts. Mount Osmond won the Moller Cup, which was presented by last years winner, Grange.

History of the Moller Cup.

It all started when Rose Jarvis and Mrs Moller from North Adelaide Golf Club played against two ladies from The Grange Golf Club. They met for a game and eventually this turned into an annual match.  They decided to play for a trophy and in 1957; Mrs. Moller came forward with the magnificent trophy that is still used today. In 1959, Mt. Osmond and Mt. Lofty requested to join the competition.

The Moller Cup competition was used as a training ground for potential Pennant players. Teams comprised of Bronze players. Ladies who had played off a handicap lower than 19 were not eligible to play. Quote from Rose Jarvis at the annual Moller Cup presentation to North Adelaide in 1978. “Happily, matches are less ‘cut-throat’ than in pennants, being played in a more relaxed friendly manner which offers good friendship and comradeship, two very important aspects of the Moller Cup and golf”.

  Winners 1957 – 1993: Grange 16 times, Mount Osmond 12 times, Mount Lofty 6 times, North Adelaide 3 times.

  After 1993, when Mrs Moller died, the Moller Cup competition finished.

In 2003 the Moller Cup trophy was found and in May 2004 Captain’s, Lynn Creighton [Mt.Lofty], Louise Dearing [Grange], Chris Taylor [Mt.Osmond] and Janet Richards [North Adelaide] had a meeting and decided to re-start the Moller Cup Competition with an Aggregate Stableford competition with 10 players in a team. Since then, it has been played annually. The first, ‘new format’ Moller Cup competition was held at Mt.Lofty in 2004. 2005, was played at North Adelaide, 2006 was played at Grange, 2007 was played at Mount Osmond, 2008 at Mt. Lofty, 2009 at North Adelaide, 2010 at Grange and 2011 at Mount Osmond. In 2012 it will be played at Mount Lofty again.
