Mount Lofty Golf Club News

06 March 2002
Editorial

Our newsletter has had several facelifts since it was first introduced as a regular 2 to 4 side publication during the early 1980s. Before then it usually took the form of a simple, single, typed sheet, more in the form of a collection of notices, produced irregularly. The Christmas edition was usually the only regular issue. I'm delighted to have been associated with the Mt. Lofty Golf News for over 20 years.

The familiar 4 to 8 side Mt.. Lofty Golf News has been essentially the same, just a few format changes, since the early 1990s.

Time for a change, maybe!

First, you'll notice the two column configuration has gone and several conventional layout features have been changed as well. Segments such as the editorial, president's and captain's articles, and reports from regular subcommittees remain, of course.

A few of the oldies have gone. "What's Happened to Old .....?" is now "Meet ............". This features interviews with or potted biographies of both old and new members rather than concentrating on identities who are no longer members. Why are they all gentlemen? Because our ladies have a similar feature in their own newsletter.

"Letters to the Editor" have been dropped. Some of these tended to be negative and dealt with matters that ought to have gone straight to Committee. So! If you have bouquets or brickbats, write to your nearest Committee member instead of me. Nonetheless, you can still write to me with your concerns, it's just that I won't be printing them. Another thing about printing letters quarterly is that the matters broached therein were often 'old hat' before members got to read them in subsequent editions. Still included is some history and tradition of both MLGC in particular and golf generally, together with "Roney's" rules questions, and current requests or directives from management. Graphics, jokes and cartoons remain features, too. One notable innovation is the Pro shop hint for better golf. Our Matthew Dent contributes to this segment. Naturally, Women's Golf will have space as usual.

Hope you like the new "News". View it in colour on the Net http://www.mountloftygolfclub.com.au/.
Frank Coulter. Editor.

P.S. Letters are not now published, but consider submitting other articles of interest to golfers. As promised last time, there is a Club logo from the past displayed on page 4.
