Women's
Golf
Our season started well with the
retention of the Mt. Trophy against Mt.Osmond. We hope to repeat this
later in the year when we play there. The Championships were held early
in May, with the Qualifying, Quarter- and Semi-finals played in
excellent weather. Finals Day started with heavy rain which cleared to
enable us to complete all matches.
The results were:
A Grade (36 holes)
Winner: Julie Michelmore
Runner Up: Jill Freer
B Grade (27 Holes)
Winner: Meg Dunn
Runner Up: Pam Callaghan
C Grade (18 Holes)
Winner: Pauline Nietz
Runner Up: Celia Fowler
The day concluded with celebrations in
the Club House. Light refreshments and drinks were provided by the
Ladies Committee.
Over the past few months changes have
been made in the Lily Waite House (Ladies Locker Room). New lighting has
been installed and a group of able Lady Members have painted the walls
of the Locker Room, the shower and toilet areas, as well as varnishing
the bench seats. All this was made possible from funds raised over the
past 12 months and voluntary help.
At the beginning of July we held a Card
Day with 32 players attending. Some of our members made lunch for the
players, raising $518.
Our next major fundraiser will be on
Sunday 22nd September when we hope many of you will support one of the
most popular events on the Club Calendar - THE CHAMPAGNE BREAKFAST.

Answer to Rules
Question
In both cases the penalty is one stroke
and the ball must be replaced. If you are confused about whether Match
Play breaches are loss of hole or penalty strokes, here is a general
rule:-
If it is 1 stroke in stroke play, it is 1 stroke in match play.
If it is 2 strokes in stroke play, it is loss of hole in match
play.
Manager's Report
Since the last Mt. Lofty Golf News there
have been some staff changes. Bob Young has left for "greener
pastures" and no 4 a.m. summer starts. At this stage a mechanic has
been employed to do our machine maintenance. Glenis Kuhlman has taken a
redundancy package. She has been replaced by Shirley Moriarty, whose
hours are 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Monday to Friday. Steve Pellatt, after breaking
his leg, should be back on deck by late August or early September.
The sale of our land at Schocroft 'hit
the wall' in March. The complex web of easements that needed to be
registered has taken an agonizingly long time. We hope it will go to
auction by mid August. Work on the wheelchair accessible toilet should
start in the next few weeks during our 'quiet time'. Work will commence
on the 7th tee as weather permits. We are waiting for 5 new ball washers
to be installed, the same style as the one on the first tee. These come
at no cost to the Club.
One item from the AGM was our phone bill.
I am pleased to report that we are changing carriers at the end of our
billing cycle, to Primus. This will see a 10 - 15% reduction in our
phone bill.
Lastly, we are in discussions with FOCUS,
a marketing company, to finalize strategies to attract new members and
produce a new Corporate Membership Package.

Funny, I
Thought!
A
young friend of mine set herself up to do small decorating jobs and
visited the golf club to find work. The manager, deciding the porch at
the entry to the 19th could use a coat of paint, showed her where to
find the paint and brushes, and pointing vaguely to the porch, set off
for his weekly round of golf. He had reached the 8th when the woman
joined him.
She called out, "I've finished the painting and even managed two
coats."
"Great!", he said, "That was quick."
"By the way," she added, "It's not a
Porsche, it's a Ferrari!"
Our golfing medical practitioners have it
all over us - nobody can read their scorecard.
