Meet
.......... New Committee Member, Peter Walsh.
Peter is not a new member by any means,
having joined the Club in March, 1975. He is married with an 18 year old
daughter. Until recently, when he retired, he was Principal Solicitor in
the Office of the Australian Government Solicitor, in the area of civil
litigation.
I caddied for him in the C Grade Summer
Cup. He reciprocated during the C Grade Club Champ. finals and
threatened to bill me at $200 an hour. Where I'm going to get the $1600
I don't know!
Some of the highlights of his
achievements include: Retired Major in the Australian Army Legal
Corps Reserve (19 years); Life Member of the Adelaide University
Athletics Club; State Rep. in the 800m in 1965, Australian Universities
Rep.(4x400) and University Blue.
He is also a Life Member of Rostrum
Club No 9; Member of the Naval, Military and Air Force Club and
Snooker/Billiards Committeeman. Other interests include: badminton,
athletics, music, and SACA Peter follows overseas sporting teams,
including the San Francisco 49ers, Dodgers, Leeds United, Boston and
Scottish Celtics and, of course, all Australian Teams.
Since his retirement it has been good to
see him develop from an unimpressive duffer into a keen as a blade
golfer with a great zest for the game.
What is quite evident when playing golf
with Peter is his sense of fun. Naturally, he doesn't like to play poor
shots, but he doesn't throw clubs and can laugh at himself. I've never
heard him blame someone else who takes a deep breathe on the next
fairway for his momentary lapses of skill. It's pure delight to see him
perform his Mohican war dance whenever he gets that elusive putt,
or chips in to win a side match. I wish I had it on film.
You're a gem, Peter! Maybe not the
world's best golfer, but a revered members, nevertheless.

I Didn't Know
That!
- Poor
Steve Pellatt, our Course Super, hit a snag while riding on one of
the Club's motor bikes a few weeks ago and broke his leg. Hope to
see him back soon.
- After
countless hours of research and argument, the Committee finally
gained permission to remove several trees to make way for the new
7th tee. When work was about to begin they found that permission
from the environmental body was not enough, they needed permission
also from the Stirling Council. If all goes well, work on the
project should begin as soon as the weather improves.
You
probably do know a golf cart or bike user who doesn't keep to paths,
or drives on tees and surrounds. "Wheelies" have appeared
where the thoughtless have struck trouble going through sloppy
patches. Tell them about it! The Rules don't relieve
hapless golfers trapped in such ruts. Recently I saw a cart
slithering around the top of the ninth green. It took three golfers
to push the vehicle up the bank. Now it's a dreadful place to be if
you overshoot nine!
