Captain's Report

First I want to welcome all new members to our Club. Please make yourselves known to me and all Committee members (I am the short fat bloke with the loud voice). We hope you enjoy your membership.

I would also like to give big welcome to our Golf Pro Mr Warren Symons. If you have been a member at Mt. Lofty for over 10 years you will remember Warren when he was working with Mr Ted Williams. Please give Warren a chance to compete with all your golfing needs.

Welcome back to our Course Superintendent Mr Steve Pellatt. We now have full compliment of ground staff for the first time in the last six months. We should now be able to present the golf course to the members in the best possible condition.

It has been the decision of the Course and Match Committee to revert to a one tee hit-off on Saturdays commencing Sat 2nd November. This will enable the course staff to cut the greens Saturday mornings giving us all better greens. Also the fields (members) are down to approximately 115 per Saturday and it is the opinion of the Committee that a two tee start is not necessary. However, this will be reviewed.

Please remember these important dates:

Sunday November 10th - Mt. Shield at Mt. Osmond;
Sunday November 24th - working bee and sausage sizzle at the Club;
Friday November 22nd - Presentation Dinner.

Please feel free to approach me or any of the Committee with your complaints, suggestions, or any other comments for the good of Mt. Lofty Golf Club.

See you in the Clubhouse

Rub of the Grin

Roney on the Rules

On a recent occasion, on our 11th hole, a player found his ball in the gutter along the path and was en-titled to a "free" drop. As a right hander his nearest point of relief was on the left (high) side of the path, but the area within one club length of that point was covered in bushes. The ball dropped there would be unplayable. The player claimed that he should be allowed to drop elsewhere otherwise he would not be getting any relief. What is the ruling?
See later for answer.
