Editorial
I've got a cold! Who can be surprised at
falling foul of some dread disease during this awful weather? More than
half of Spring gone and only a couple of days to get into short sleeves
so far. In our last newsletter the President promised us pleasant golf
in the Spring that hasn't come yet; and he's not even a politician!
Ironically, the course has stood up
remarkably well to the long wet spells, so if we were game enough to get
wet, we couldn't blame the course for our poor play. In any case, being
in bad form during winter is never much fun on any course.
You might enjoy the series of Club
emblems coming up in the MLGC News over the next few months. These
monograms were all fully embroidered at some time or other, but none
ever got to be used officially.
I'm not really taken with the dickie bird
we have gone for recently. It is 'sweet', but doesn't seem to indicate
anything distinctive about us, unless we happen to be bird fanciers.
Though it does look well on clothing and other items available from
Matthew, it is somewhat ordinary in its simplified form on letterhead
etc. It's an improvement on the ordinary shield we had, though. This had
been in use since someone surreptitiously changed the delightful old
1930's version that used to be resplendent on Club blazers. Now that one
really did show some-thing of Club history.
Maybe you'd like to write a letter to the
editor about this and tell him what a picky crank he is.
Enjoy your warm weather golf - when it
arrives!

From The President
The last few months have seen some
interesting developments at the Club and it is appropriate that I
address some of these in this newsletter.
Graham Gamble has made a major
contribution in this area and we're getting a clearer understanding of
the level and quality of resources we'll require in the future. Matthew
has already taken over full responsibility for promoting golf events
generally and I'd like to thank Matt for the entrepreneurial and
professional way he has gone about the task.
The other matter that has been rumored
arose from an approach to the Committee of Management by a couple of
members who have ideas about Club development. We're always interested
in growth opportunities so the Committee met the 2 members for a general
discussion - at which time we were asked to (and did sign) a
confidentiality agreement.
The Committee asked the 2 members to
provide a definitive proposal, which could then be assessed, and if
appropriate presented to the membership at an Extraordinary General
Meeting. We have yet to receive a detailed proposal and so we have
nothing to consult the membership about.
Should anything of interest develop from
this you have my assurance that the Committee will consult members in
accordance with the Club Constitution.
The key focus for the Club remains
membership numbers and the Committee plans to introduce some greater
flexibility with Membership categories which we hope will increase
traffic at the Club and use of the course and facilities. More of this
later.
It's been a damp spring and I see that
South Australia's reservoirs are over 90% full. The course is still
fairly wet and like most of us I'm looking forward to the clocks
changing; summer evenings and some decent weather.
In golf, Jack McKean.
President.
