Course
Welcome to new Vice Captain, Ben Tobin,
to the Course Committee. We look forward to Ben's contribution to
keeping Mount Lofty Golf course as enjoyable and challenging as it has
been in the past.
We have had an incredible amount of rain
this winter and spring. In September alone 163mm were recorded. This has
made the maintenance of the golf course a very difficult job for Course
Superintendent, Steve and his team. For all that - we have not had to
cancel any Saturday golf. There has been some very wet patches to
contend with and some inconvenience to those who have braved the
elements but the condition of the course and greens have held up
remarkably well.
It would be appreciated if motor bike and
cart users would please keep to the paths and rough as much as possible
and steer away from known wet areas. This means that you might have to
get off and walk to your ball but it will prevent unnecessary damage to
the course. We all look forward to better golf conditions.
The blue tee markers are to be used for
all Club Competitions. They are not to be used for Sunday casual
golf or Monday, Tues. etc. Please use the white markers for these rounds
of golf so as to avoid unnecessary wear to the tee area.
You may have heard around the traps, that
Mount Lofty Golf Club has received a Government Grant of $20,000.00.
This is quite true. The priorities for work to be done include the 2nd
tee, 7th tee and the dam at the 10th. Work will commence on the dam at
the 10th as soon as we get some favourable weather.
I would like to thank our Professional,
Matt Dent and also Matt Deans for their excellent work on arranging and
advertising all golf competitions at Mount Lofty. Look for the colourful
notices relating to coming events.
Anyone who joined us on Champagne
Breakfast day would have had a top day. Well done to Marion Cartwright
and all the ladies for all their hard work and money raised.
Don't forget to carry and use sand
buckets to repair divots and repair plug marks on the greens also.
Good golfing - see you in the Clubhouse.
Darryl McKee (Captain)
Chairman of Course.

What Happened to Old
...?
Whoever!
Have any oldies you would like remembered
in this segment?
Jot down a few details, leave them at the
office for me, or Email if you like, so that I can follow them up for a
detailed account in future editions.
Any identities, good friends, staff or
'denizens' of the Club and so on are good subjects.

Roney on the Rules
Players A and B hit to our 3rd hole. Both
balls come to rest in the centre of the path (where it is
artificially surfaced). 'A' finds his nearest point of relief on the
left of the path and drops his ball within one club length.
When 'B' goes to drop on the same side,
'A' says "You can't drop here, your nearest relief is on the other
(right) side".
How can this be correct? See later for
the answer.
