Roney on the Rules

Statements recently heard on our course:
A "A ball is on the green when any part of it is on the green".
B "A ball is on the fairway when any part of it is on the fairway".
C "A ball is out of bounds when any part of it is out of bounds".
Are any of these statements correct? Answers later.

That's History

The Club insignia (Logo in common parlance) has changed over the years. Below are a few for your perusal.

Clockwise from the upper left:

The current one.
Two old blazer pockets that nearly made it, but were forsaken in favour of the current one.
The one used for some years in the 1930s and which, I think, beats them all.

There was also an insignia worn only by Pennant players. This consisted of a simple white laurel wreath on navy blue over the letters ML in white.

See Editorial for other comments. Write in if you think the old insignia needs reviving over a period

Since the last Newsletter there have been a number of significant events.

Pennant Captain, Paul Knape has regrettably had to resign from the position, because of work commitments, however, an enthusiastic and capable replacement, Sean Steed, is in the hot seat.

This year SAGA has changed the Pennant format and our A Graders find themselves competing in the Simpson Cup. In our qualifying division we play against Flagstaff Hill, Mt.Osmond, Riverside, Kooyonga and Blackwood with only one home game against Mt. Osmond. The team will need all the support it can get in the form of caddies and spectators. As you will already be aware they are running a barbecue with additional events during the Saturday Competition in aid of the Pennant Fund. This will be utilised in purchasing uniforms for all players and to help towards other expenses incurred during the season. Support from the members will be greatly appreciated.

This year the Mount Lofty Amateur/Vardon event was again a great success with the maximum field possible playing in excellent conditions. For the first time for a while, there was a good entry of home players but unfortunately their performance did not quite live up to expectations.

The winner was Ryan Hunter of Royal Adelaide 64/65 total 129, with last year's winner Geof Brennan of Blackwood, runner-up with 64/69 - 133, which was 2 strokes better than his winning score last year.

In the Juniors, James Norcock of Grange won with a score of 71/67 - 138, defeating Adam Bland of Thaxted Park 72/66 - 138 at the first extra hole.
