From the Secretary/Manager

75" Anniversary Celebrations

Praise has been heaped on Margaret Wood and her committee for their efforts in preparing for the weekend celebrations. This is richly deserved. Thanks and congratulations to all staff on a job well done. Their efforts were considerable and contributed to the success and enjoyment of the festivities.

The office and greens staff were mainly involved in preparations whilst the kitchen and bar staff bore the brunt of the load over the two-day celebrations.

I make special mention of the contribution of Matt Dent and Cindy who were involved in both the planning and operation of the weekend as well as generously donating prizes for the golf and dinner celebrations.

To everyone, on behalf of the members, thanks for making the event such an enormous success.

John Gilleade. Secretary/Manager.

From The President

That's the first 75 years and looking back to history and having experienced actively the last 25 years, I still feel we have one of the best Golf Clubs in this State. The 75th Celebrations all ran very well and thanks for this go to Margaret Wood, her special Committee, volunteers, helpers, contractors and all staff. Coupled with fair weather Saturday, 150+ for dinner Saturday night and superb weather for the "Fun Day" on Sunday, completed a great weekend. Now we can look forward and continue progressing for the Centenary.

A recent directive by the Executive of the Committee of Management to have the Secretary/Manager out on the course on Saturdays marshalling play and etiquette and to supervise tee arrival and hit off times, has been made to help all members to complete their round in a reasonable time. We know that 4½ hours plus, is not acceptable and do not wish this pattern to become the standard. For the betterment of golf and all members please be at the tee on time, that is 5 minutes before hit off time and during play keep up with the group in front.

Finally, it is my pleasure to announce that Mr D.V. (Doug) Blair has been made an Honorary Member and we thank him sincerely for his physical and financial input - he certainly has been a major benefactor to our Club.

Ray Freer. President.

The Editor,
MLGC Newsletter,
Dear Frank,

My playing partners and I have been concerned about the dress standards in the club over the past few years.

Recently, on one Saturday, we saw the following, and the incidents were, in several cases witnessed by Club officials.

1. A member in the 19th wearing thongs and no socks.
2. A man in the 19th wearing sandals without socks.
3. A junior in the 19th without shoes or socks.
4. Three golfers on course wearing short black socks.
5. Four men in the 19th wearing rather jaded sneakers

It might be argued that fashions change, but while the rules remain in the Handbook, surely they ought to be policed. We are waiting for the appearance of someone in shorts, navy singlet and Ugg boots. Maybe he will attract attention. Are we really so hard up that we need to ignore this erosion of standards?      Fancy Dresser. (Name supplied.)
