From the Secretary/Manager

The last 12 to 15 months have been very eventful with many changes and events to contend with. On behalf of the membership I would like to thank all the staff for their contribution during the year.

They have all carried out their duties commendably. I would particularly like to thank Carole in the Office, who has successfully charted the Club's path through a major computer upgrade, the installation of computer equipment in the Professional's Shop, the introduction of a Direct Debit system of fee payment and, whilst preparing the end of year accounts and annual report, ensuring that the Golf Club is GST ready.

During the year, in addition to purchasing two new mowers and a verti drain machine, we have negotiated a transitional period between the loss of long standing and well respected Course Superintendent, Andrew Manthorpe and the appointment of his replacement Steve Pellatt, who is beginning to show what he can do now he has a little experience of our course and weather conditions under his belt.

Bob Young has generously picked up the reins during the transition period. Many thanks for a job extremely well done. We are very fortunate to have staff of this calibre.
To those members who may not know all of our staff, I would like to mention Chad Dawe, a trainee member of the Course staff who has acquitted himself well since he joined us in January. He is now undertaking formal apprenticeship studies at Urrbrae College with both the encouragement and financial assistance of the Club. This should certainly be to the long term benefit of the course.

Congratulations are in order for our other member of the green staff who became a father not too long ago. Don't give him too hard a time since his young son appears to be achieving that at home.

Finally, I must mention Mount Lofty's answer to the Taj Mahal - "The Gazebo" at the sixth tee. This magnificent structure started life as a relatively cheap and ordinary kit purchased from a supplier in Adelaide. Following the original kit purchase our 'Structural Engineering Departmental Head' (Tom Hands) decided that significant modifications were necessary to turn this pile of timber into a feature that he would be prepared to put his name to.

Ably assisted by Colin Mulroney and Bob Young, Tom created this superb structure that you all will have seen take shape and come to completion. It is anticipated that significant use will be made of the barbecue over the ensuing years.

Thanks are also extended to Doug Blair, without whose persistence and dogged determination, not to mention his wallet, this structure would never have even 'got off the ground.

'I wish all members golfing success during the winter months and look forward to warmer drier weather in the not too distant future, when we can all have the opportunity to show our extensive golfing prowess.

John Gilleade. Secretary/Manager.
