Course
Despite an extremely hot and dry summer,
our golf course has remained in very good condition, thanks to Course
Superintendent, Steve, and his hardworking staff. The presentation of
the course for the recent Vardon event was further evidence of their
diligence and hard work.
You will have noticed the open drain
along the left side of the 4th hole, which will remedy boggy condition
of the 4th during winter. Another drain is planned similarly for the top
side of the 12th.
Holes on the green now have plastic
inserts which will assist in retaining their shape.
The change in using blue markers for club
competitions will assist with the maintenance of the tee areas by
spreading the wear. Green fee players and social players will use white
markers and club competition competitors using the blue markers. This,
of course, applies to gentleman members.
Another benefit is that we will probably
acquire a more realistic and competitive handicap!
The committee is again concerned with the
number of unrepaired divot marks on the course and unrepaired pitchmarks
on the greens. On fairways and in the rough, please fill in any divot
marks in the vicinity, and repair any pitchmarks on the greens, not just
your own. THIS ONLY TAKES A MOMENT.
Finally, all committee members wish
members enjoyable and satisfying golfing during 2001.

Environment
Have you seen two workers
weeding around the first green in recent weeks? Have you seen that a
large amount of broom has been cleared from the left of the
fairway?
Well, here is the background
info:
We successfully applied for a grant of $3,000.00 from the Urban Forest
Biodiversity Program. The money is to be used to clear woody weeds in
the area from the stone entrance gate around to near the first tee. We
pay the above bushcare workers with the grant and in return we provide
labour using volunteers at an equitable rate. To date 2 or 3 members
have given more than 65 hours of labour. There is much more to be done!
