Just
Joking
A minister went to his golf course hoping
to find someone to play with. Luckily there was a member in the pro shop
looking for a game, so they were introduced and went to the first tee.
The member asked, "What's your
handicap?"
The minister replied, "I'm a
twelve."
The member said, "Oh, good, so am I.
Would you like to have a friendly side bet of a dollar a hole?"
The minister balked at first, but agreed.
Returning to the club house the minister shelled out $18.
As he did, he said, "I'd like for
you to come down to the church sometime."
The member said, "'I'd like to do
that."
The minister added, "Yes! And bring
your mother and father; I'd like to marry them!"
Letters to the Editor
The Editor,
Dear Frank,
It was sad to hear of the death of good
old member, Jim Coleman, recently. Our thoughts are with Margaret.
Jim was not a great golfer, but he was
a gentleman and a first rate member for some years.
It was nice, though, to see that the
Club afforded him the honour of a half - mast flag, despite his not
having been a member for a time.
I believe that the recent change in
policy regarding this was in no small way the result of your pertinent
Editorial comment in the last Newsletter.
Another Oldie
Thanks, Oldie, but I believe that some
credit must go to V. C.., Alan Figg, who, I hear, took the matter up
quite forcefully after he was made aware of it. Ed.

From the
Secretary/Manager
As you know a revised fee structure for
the next financial year has been established. The new fees are due to
the increasing costs of running a club such as Mt.Lofty and ensure that
we can continue to offer the same facilities and services.
The membership category that has incurred
the largest increase in fees is 7 day part payment to the tune of $82.05
per annum. This rise (about 22.5 cents a day) will provide the club with
much needed funds.
Our continued success as a club comes
from our members and we are keen to not only preserve our current
members but develop our membership base. If anyone has any questions
regarding the fees for 2001/2002 please come to the office or phone me.
We will be pleased to discuss your fees and the various payment options
available to members.
Golflinks Road and the entrance to
the club and carpark are narrow and windy. Drive slowly and take care.
We have had several near misses recently.
Slow play in Saturday competitions
is often due to players arriving late for their tee off time. Please
arrive 5 minutes before the prescribed time. The length of time taken to
play Saturday competition rounds is a problem which the Match Committee
has devoted significant time to. A number of possible solutions will be
tried in soon, but the final responsibility lies with each group to keep
up with those in front.
To all those who have not played in a
competition recently, the blue markers are to be used for all club
competitions, including the Sunday Stableford.
Conversely if you are not playing in a
designated club event please use the white markers, in order that wear
on the tees will be evenly spread.
John Gilleade.
Secretary/Manager.
