AGM time came and went with little
controversy and an election we have when we don't need an election. At
least there was a fair turn out, largely because Constitutional changes
several years ago allow most members, not just those paying 'full tote
odds', to attend, vote and stand for Committee. It's never certain
whether the installation of an unopposed Committee is a sign of a club
with no problems, or a club with more than a fair share of complacent
members. I like to think it's the former!
Being a Committee member is not much fun
at times, despite giving one a sense of contribution and purpose. Those
who serve can always expect a measure of criticism from members who feel
they have a grievance. Serious acceptance of complaints is fair, just
and healthy, though there are a few complainants who just like to hear
their own voices or want to take out bad golf on someone - so why not
the Committee or staff.
Here's a tip for members with queries -
try not to put questions to Committee members when they're halfway
through a backswing on the first tee!
The new Committee for the coming season
is:
PRESIDENT: JACK MCKEAN
VICE PRESIDENT: ROSS DEANS
CAPTAIN: DARYL MCKEE
VICE CAPTAIN: ALAN FIGG
TREASURER: TIM SIEBERT
COMMITTEE: GRAHAM GAMBLE, JAN SEEDSMAN, M CARTWRIGHT, KEITH PIGRAM

The death this month of Rob Paddick
shocked us all. Rob, once Club captain, was a keen, gentlemanly golfer,
for many years working unpretentiously for the Club he loved. We'd like
his wife, Pat, to know that we have thought of him frequently during
this quite distressing time.

The President
The 43rd Annual General Meeting of the
Club was on June 28th. Thanks to those members who attended and
participated in the discussion.
Keith Pigram, an excellent Club Captain,
steps down and we welcome Daryl McKee to the position.
Marion Cartwright, president of the
Ladies' committee, joins the Management Committee and Margaret Wood, who
has done an excellent job convening House, Social and Membership steps
down. Doug Blair will continue as a seconded member of the Course and
Match Committees where he has made a great contribution for some years.
The key matter discussed at the AGM was
the diminishing membership base which has eroded Club revenues. This is
a common problem and it seems likely that several existing Adelaide
Clubs may find it impossible to continue. Our financial situation is not
as robust as we would like it to be and we propose to address this in
three ways:
On a brighter note, I had the pleasure of
watching our Pennant team's win at home in the Simpson Cup against
Riverside. Gunter Gross continues his winning streak and confounds the
golfing world.
Despite the wintry conditions the course
is playing well, though like most Mount Lofty members, I look forward to
September and golf in the spring.

Jack McKean, President
