Course
Welcome to new Club Captain, Daryl McKee,
and President of the Ladies, Marion Cartwright, who join the Course
Committee. We look forward to their contribution in keeping Mount Lofty
an enjoyable and challenging golf course.
The drain work, topside of the 12th
fairway will be completed by the time you read this Newsletter and we
anticipate another new drain between the 5th and 7th to be completed
shortly after that. These drains in conjunction with the recently
established and effective drain on the 4th will reduce fairway
saturation. Close evaluation of other 'wet spots' on other fairways will
determine if similar or other remedial action is required. A cart path
will be completed shortly around the lower side of the 10th green to
allow easier cart access to the 11th tee. While referring to carts, we
do ask all motorbike and cart users to pay particular attention during
winter months in avoiding wet spots on the course. Where possible, cart
paths must be used and where not in place, keep to the rough. Hill
climbs must be avoided.
We are endeavouring to provide an
alternative water supply to the drinking fountains which will require
considerable lengths of pipe to be laid. The lack of water is causing
concern and the re-supply will be completed as soon as possible.
The fairway 'preferred lie' was
implemented to en-sure good golf shots to a fairway were not penalised
by having mud or worm casts clinging to the ball. It makes it all the
more important to replace and repair divots on fairways and in the
rough. It is also vital that we repair plug marks on the greens. There
has been some improvement over recent weeks, but there are still too
many unrepaired divot and plug marks on our course. Please take time to
do the right thing.
The course presentation for the recent
Simpson Cup event at Mount Lofty was first class. Congratulations to
Steve and his team. I'm sure all the players appreciated the condition
of the course. Spectators were lavish in their praise; great to hear and
see.
Good golfing for the remainder of winter.
We hope some of the weather will be a repeat of the last week in June
and early July.

"CLUB CATERER'S SUCCESS"
Cindy Westphalen, our Caterer, was "Chosen Winner 2001 Annual
Bridal Industry Awards for Excellence by Customer Choice - Category -
Professional Caterer". This is a magnificent achievement, not only
for Cindy and her team, but a wonderful promotion for the Mount Lofty
Golf Club.
Whilst 2000 was somewhat sluggish, this
year and beyond shows a great turnaround. From July to December Cindy
has at least 13 Weddings and 6 outside functions to cater for. January
to April 2002 has already 10 Wedding bookings. This is good news for our
Golf club. The Club gets paid a fee from Cindy on each Wedding guest as
well as the profit from the Bar. "Congratulations" to Cindy
and her team.
"COME
ON IN!"
The Clubhouse Lounge is open every day serving drinks and
refreshments with excellent, inexpensive meals being provided on a
Wednesday and Saturday. Our licensing allows for Members' guests and
visitors from outside the Club to use our facilities.
The Clubhouse is an important income
earner for the Club. Come in after your round and make use of the
excellent facilities. Your patronage is vital to the continuation of the
present service and possible future expansion also. Profits generated
contribute to the overall budget and running of your Club.
If you have any ideas on improving the
Clubhouse service, please see Marion Cartwright, Ross Deans, Graham
Gamble, Jan Seedsman, David Tonkin - all members of the House and Social
Committee.
WINTER AMBROSE - Sunday 5 August 2001
Hit off times for this event will be from 8.00am.
An entry fee of $5.00 per head is being
charged to cover the cost of the prizes, the presentation of which will
be made at the conclusion of the event.
For those wishing to stay, an excellent
lunch has been organised by Cindy's Classic Gourmet and is available for
purchase. The "Members Draw" will be conducted during the
Luncheon.
This is the first event to be organised
by the new House and Social Committee. We hope with the support of all
members this will be the first of many great social functions for
members during the coming year.
